LEADERS-IN-TRAINING

Thank you for your interest in Camp Wyndham’s Leaders-In-Training (LIT) program.  Our program is designed for students in seventh through tenth grade who would like to learn leadership skills in a camp setting.  In most cases, students are able to earn Community Service hours for their participation in this program.  Leader-n-Training candidates complete an application describing their interest in our program.  After receiving the application, applicants will be selected to participate in our selection process.

First and foremost, all Leaders-In-Training must have the desire to work with children.  While experience is not necessary, it is helpful.  The campers at Camp Wyndham range in age from 13 months to 12 years.  LIT’s are asked to select the group for which they feel the most suited.  In general, LIT’s who are older are placed with older elementary age campers.

Camp Wyndham provides a stimulating program for all of the campers.  Our goal is to use the special talents of the LIT’s to enhance camp programs as well as develop the LIT’s leadership abilities.  LIT’s will be asked to work with Camp Wyndham staff to plan, implement, and review activities for their group or several groups.  Additionally, as part of our program, LIT’s will develop a lesson for their group.  This will allow LIT’s to develop planning skills in a cooperative environment.

Leaders-In-Training are required to commit to a minimum of 5 weeks of camp and a minimum schedule of 8:30 am to 4:00 pm. (This can be somewhat flexible.)  Camp begins on June 17 and ends on August 21.  There will be a 1 hour lunch break in which LIT’s will have time for lunch and socializing.  Additionally, LIT’s not working with the elementary camp program will be able to select several field trips to attend, space permitted.

The goal of the Leaders-In-Training program is to provide a safe, fun, learning environment.  While tuition is not charged for this program, there is a registration fee.  The registration fee covers costs associated with maintaining the Leaders-In-Training program including accident insurance, field trips, staff supervision, and administrative work.  This program is designed to be mutually beneficial for LIT’s, parents, and Camp Wyndham.

If you have any additional questions, please feel free to call Camp Wyndham between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm, Monday – Friday.
